Calmer classrooms. Students ready to learn. Five minutes a day.
Most students walk into class carrying more than their school bag. The Find Your Joy Schools Programme uses the 5Qs Formula™, a five-minute teacher-led daily habit, to help students arrive calm, connected and ready to learn.
No specialist delivery. No new curriculum load. No time outside the existing school day.

Imagine if your students…
Every teacher knows the difference between a class that has settled and a class that is still carrying the morning in with it. Learning readiness is what sits between the two.
That is exactly what the daily 5Qs habit builds.
- Arrived calm and settled, ready for the first minute of instruction
- Could recognise and name how they feel
- Believed they could have a great day
- Kept trying when learning felt hard
- And it took five minutes, inside the routines you already run
The problem every school leader recognises
This is not a wellbeing problem. It is a learning efficiency problem, and it is teachers who absorb the cost.
Only 18% of primary students and 16% of secondary students report having a ready-to-learn mindset.
Resilience Survey 2024, 149,000+ students across 800 schoolsTeachers can spend up to 14% of classroom time managing disruption and regulation. In some classrooms that is more than 40 minutes of lost instruction a day.
OECD and Australian education dataNine in ten teachers report a decline in their own wellbeing and morale. The regulation work lands on staff who are already stretched.

A habit, not another programme
Schools are not short of wellbeing options. What is missing is a practical, measurable approach embedded in daily classroom practice. The 5Qs Formula™ guides students through five questions at the start of each day, moving them from internal awareness to reflection to action.
Five minutes, teacher-led
The 5Qs run at the start of the day inside existing classroom transitions. No specialist, no extra resources, no time outside the school day.
Five daily questions
Students recognise how they feel, notice what is going well, reflect on challenges, set small goals and choose how they want to show up.
Measured, not assumed
Impact is tracked through the Global Joy Index™ with baseline and post-programme measurement, so your school sees what actually shifted.

What changed in four weeks
In a four-week pilot with 49 primary students at a Queensland state school, educator-rated improvements were observed across every key domain of learning readiness.
This was an exploratory proof-of-concept pilot, not a randomised controlled trial. Findings are early indicators, and the expanded 2026 programme is designed to build the broader evidence base.
What the pilot taught us
The numbers only tell part of the story. Three clear patterns came out of the four weeks, and the white paper explains each one in full.
Confidence grew the fastest
More students started saying things like “I believe I can have a great day” and “I know what I am good at”. This happened in the youngest classes and the oldest ones alike. Belief in themselves was the first thing to shift.
Doing it every day is what mattered
The classes that ran the 5Qs most consistently were also the classes where students handled their emotions best. Four weeks is too short to prove one caused the other, but it points to something teachers already know: the habit matters more than the effort behind it.
Some things take longer than four weeks
Setting goals and calming yourself down improved the least. That is normal. These are skills children build over years, not weeks, and it is the strongest reason to keep the habit going all year rather than run it for a term.
Why a five-minute habit works
The approach draws on a convergent body of research. The principle underneath it is well established: emotional state directly shapes cognitive availability for learning.
Regulation comes first
Students who cannot self-regulate are less cognitively available for learning, irrespective of academic capability. Regulation is a prerequisite for instruction, not a supplement to it.
Metacognition is high impact
The Education Endowment Foundation identifies metacognitive practice as among the highest-impact, lowest-cost approaches available to schools. The 5Qs make it accessible to primary-age students.
Engagement beats attendance
Australian research indicates student engagement likely has a stronger impact on achievement than attendance alone. Presence in a classroom is not the same as readiness to learn.
Habits outlast programmes
Consistent, low-effort practices embedded in existing routines produce more durable change than episodic, intensive interventions. Five minutes daily reflects this directly.
Voices from the classroom
“What stood out was how quickly the classroom climate shifted. Students appeared calmer, more settled and more ready to engage in learning.”
Rebecca Reid, Principal · Ridgelands State School, pilot partner“If small, evidence-informed changes can help students become more engaged, better equipped to manage setbacks, and more ready to learn, the return on investment is enormous. What excites me most is the possibility of achieving high-impact outcomes through low-cost, achievable strategies that can be embedded into everyday practice.”
Naomi Vucas, Principal · Busy Schools, live pilot“The 5Qs gave us a simple, shared language that supported both emotional regulation and focus, without adding extra pressure to an already full day.”
Classroom teacher, pilot school“It helps me pick my goals for the day and it makes it fun.”
